What is State Farm Medical Payments coverage?

What does medical payments cover? I just noticed I have this as part of my full coverage policy.

Medical payments coverage, commonly referred to as MedPay, is a supplemental type of car insurance that covers the cost of medical payments for the policyholder no matter who is at fault.
For example, if you’re the driver at fault, your liability car insurance would pay for the other driver’s medical bills, while MedPay would kick in to pay for yours.”
