low-mileage discount is a reduced rate on car insurance
for driving very few miles—usually less than 7,500 a year. However, you need to keep in mind that your individual insurance rate depend on many factors, including your driving record, so it’s hard to say what your potential discount might be. But asking about a low-mileage discount from your provider is a great idea!
To prepare, you should know a little about the different low-mileage cost savings that are available:
- Traditional low-mileage discount: Some insurers will rely on you to supply them with an annual odometer reading, which they’ll use to determine your discount.
- Telematics discount: These days, lots of companies use telematics systems, which track and monitor your driving habits, including your mileage, to decide if you get a reduced rate.
