What is physical damage coverage?

What is physical damage coverage? I just bought a pre-owned car and paid for it in cash. My dad says I need to make sure that I have physical damage coverage, but I don't see physical damage listed as an option.

“When people talk about physical damage, they mean the insurance that protects the physical aspect of your car.
Your dad wants to ensure that you have comprehensive coverage and
collision coverage
listed on your policy.
This can seem a little confusing because the odds are the words “”physical damage”” aren’t listed anywhere on your policy. It likely says, “”damage to your auto”” and then lists the comprehensive and collision coverage.
Comprehensive coverage
will provide coverage for your vehicle from losses like:
  • fire
  • theft
  • vandalism
  • animals
  • weather
  • other situations that tend to happen when your car is parked
Collision coverage covers your car if you are:
  • involved in an accident
  • if your vehicle is hit while parked”
