What is it like to drive in Miami?

I got promoted at work and am going to take a short vacation in Florida next week before my new, hectic schedule kicks in. I’m renting a car but I've never driven outside of my home state. What’s the driving like in Miami?

Congrats on the new promotion and way to go for carving out some well-earned “me time!” Miami ranks pretty high on the list for hectic traffic and unique driving behaviors. To prepare you, here are a few things to expect:
  • Drivers frequently go across several lanes of traffic quickly and without notice
  • It’s common for people to pass you on both sides—don’t be alarmed!
  • While you may see many people on their phones, it’s
    illegal to talk or text
on your phone while driving so be on the defense
There are also a few things you can do to prepare for the smoothest ride possible:
  • Know the hurricane evacuation protocols and check for storm warnings before you get on the road
  • Florida has the most miles of toll roads than any other state—pick up a free toll pass to pay the lowest rates in Florida
  • Remember to always keep your renter’s insurance documents on you including the vehicle registration and insurance—and don’t forget to your driver’s license
Buckle up
and enjoy!
