What is exhibition driving?

I was driving my car on a residential street and a police officer gave me a warning against exhibition driving. What is the definition of exhibition driving?

Good question. While cars can be fun, you have to make sure you aren’t putting yourself or other drivers in danger. Safe driving is always the most important thing!
Exhibition driving is legally defined as driving a vehicle in a way that disturbs the peace on or in any of the following:
  • Highway
  • Alley
  • Public park
  • Recreational area
  • Public school property
  • Private school property
  • College property
  • University property
It is also defined as any driver who:
  • Makes unnecessary noise
  • Squeals tires excessively
  • Slides excessively when accelerating or braking
  • Simulates a car race
  • Causes another vehicle to turn or sway abruptly
In most states, exhibition driving is a misdemeanor. The charge could be more severe if you cause an accident, death, or harm to another person.
To stay safe on the road, avoid exhibition driving and make sure you have the right
