I’ve been shopping for a new car, and many of the models I’m looking at talk about something called Eco or ECON mode. What is that?

The push to make cars more efficient has led many vehicle manufacturers to include an Eco or ECON mode to improve fuel efficiency. Specific features vary by manufacturer, but the general goal is to get higher performance per gallon out of your car by:
  • reducing throttle response
  • adjusting automatic up-shift timing
  • invoking other fuel-saving measures, such as decreased A/C capacity
