What is additional liability insurance through Zipcar?

Zipcar offers something called additional liability insurance. What is this and do I need it?

“As Zipcar policies provide your state’s minimum car insurance, you can purchase additional coverage.
Additional liability coverage with Zipcar provides excess coverage up to $300,000. You can purchase this coverage when reserving an hourly or daily trip.
Needing additional liability coverage is a personal preference. As an at-fault accident can easily exceed your state’s minimum bodily injury and property damage limits, additional coverage ensures you won’t have to pay out of pocket for damages.
That said, if you have a car insurance policy, you would have additional coverage already. When reserving a trip, it never hurts to check the price of adding additional coverage. If it’s something you can afford, it never hurts to have extra protection.
If you plan on renting or borrowing cars frequently, consider getting non-owners car insurance. Non-owners policies extend coverage to any vehicle you drive without having to own a car yourself.
You can call insurance companies in your area for more information or go to Jerry. Jerry’s licensed agents are happy to help match you with the perfect policy to keep you protected in any situation!”
