What is a safe driving point balance in Virginia?
I don’t understand what safe driving points are. I just moved to Virginia last year and I was recently notified that I have a safe driving point on my license. What does that mean?

In most states, you can only get negative points on your license. In
Virginia
, however, you can earn a safe driving point balance of up to +5 points. This is because Virginia will give you one positive point per year you drive without committing any driving infractions.Safe driving points counter any demerit points on your
driving record
. If you have four safe driving points and you get a four-point speeding ticket, for example, you would have net 0 points on your license. This system is nice because it rewards safe driving as well as punishes unsafe driving.Congratulations on your year of safe driving!
