Ok, so this may sound like a silly question, but what exactly is a car’s muffler? I hear people use that word all the time but I don’t actually know what it is.

A muffler is an important component in any car. As the name suggests, a muffler is responsible for reducing or muffling excess noise from your car’s engine.
Basically, a muffler is a collection of chambers and tubes designed to catch and redirect sound waves so that they nullify each other.
If your muffler has gone bad, you’ll notice a dramatic increase in the amount of noise that you hear coming from your engine. While not it’s technically necessary for your car to function, without a muffler the noise your car makes would be almost unbearable.
