What is a moving violation in California?

I’m moving to California in a couple of months, and I was warned that the cops are strict. I’m familiar with non-moving violations, but what are moving violations in California?

A moving violation in California is any violation of the law committed by a driver while the car is in motion. Most moving violations will add points to your driving record, but how long the points stay on your record depends on the violation.
For example, a speeding ticket will add one point to your license and stay on your driving record for 36 months, whereas more serious offenses like a hit and run or a DUI will add two points to your license and stay on your record for 10 years.
Your license is automatically suspended for six months if you accumulate four points within one year, six points within two years, or eight points within three years.
