What is a moonroof?

I’m shopping for a new car and I keep seeing a moonroof as an optional feature. I’ve heard of a sunroof before, so I’m not sure how a moonroof is different. Can you tell me the difference?

There’s a reason you struggle with the difference between a sunroof and a moonroof—they’re almost identical. A moonroof is a type of sunroof made of glass that isn’t removable. It either tilts or slides to let air and is tinted to prevent the sun from beaming down. In most cases, it also has a sliding panel that matches the interior of the car, which blocks out all sunlight.
A sunroof, on the other hand, is a piece of glass or metal that either tilts or is removable. In most cases, it does not slide back like a moonroof.
That said, these terms are often used interchangeably, which adds to the confusion between the two. If you’re confused when you’re

, ask the salesman what the difference is or take a test drive to see for yourself.
