What is a long travel Tahoe?

I’ve been shopping for a used Chevy Tahoe for a while. Today I saw one that I like, but it’s listed as a “long-travel Tahoe”. What exactly does that mean?

Great question! If a
Chevy
Tahoe (or any vehicle) is described as “long-travel,” it means that it has had some specific aftermarket modifications made to it. Someone has used a long-travel kit to increase how many inches the wheels can move up and down—this is good for off-roading.
Unless you have plans to do a lot of off-road driving, I would suggest passing on that particular
Tahoe
. While a long-travel suspension can definitely improve handling on rough terrain, it doesn’t have too much use on normal roads.
More importantly, a significant modification like that will void any warranties on the car and dramatically raise the cost of insuring it.
