What is a fender?

I’m shopping for a car online and messaging a potential seller. They told me that their car is in great condition, but that there’s a small scratch on the fender. I don’t really know much car lingo—what is a fender and where is it on a car?

A fender is a curved metal part of the
car’s body
that sits over the wheel. It protects your tires from rocks, mud, and other road debris.
Your fender also benefits the drivers around you. They prevent road debris from flying up and hitting other vehicles. So, the next time someone passes you on an unpaved road and nothing flies up and hits your windshield, you’ve got fenders to thank for it!
Fenders are located on the front of your vehicle, on the left and right sides. They’re not to be confused with bumpers, which look similar but are on the rear of your car.
Even if you’re no car expert, you’ve probably heard the term fender bender. And when you catch yourself in one of those, you’ll be thanking yourself for having the right
car insurance
