What information is needed in a letter to cancel my car insurance from the General?

What information should I put in my cancelation letter? I want to cancel my policy with The General but they said I need to send my request in writing. I don't know what to put!

The General only accepts written requests to cancel
car insurance policies
, but we can let you know what you need to write! It is a short and sweet breakup letter.
Here is what the letter needs to contain:
  • Your name
  • Your address
  • Your policy number with the General
  • Reason for cancelation (
    sold the car,
    found a lower price, etc.)
  • Effective date of cancelation
  • Name and policy number of new insurance provider, if applicable
  • Effective start date of new policy if applicable (this should be the same as the cancelation date to avoid a lapse in coverage)
  • Your signature
That is it! You can mail it directly to your local agent or the main office at: The General 2636 Elm Hill Pike, Suite 100, Nashville, TN 37214
Keep in mind that The General does have a short rate cancelation fee. It will be 10% of the unearned premium on the policy. If you are canceling as of the renewal date, this fee does not apply.
If you are leaving The General due to the cost, you should try using the
Jerry
app to search for a cheaper insurance policy. Jerry shops prices with over 50 different insurance companies and delivers the lowest rates straight to your phone in seconds.
