What happens when you get stopped for drunk driving?

I’m preparing a presentation about driving under the influence, and I want to make sure that all of the info I share is as accurate as possible. What happens when you get pulled over for a DUI?

It’s great that you’re being so meticulous! Getting pulled over for
drunk driving
typically goes like this:
  1. Unless you are swerving obviously and dangerously, the police will pull you over for a reasonable cause, like speeding or a broken taillight.
  2. The officer will ask for your license and registration.
  3. Then, they will ask if you have had anything to drink that day.
  4. If there is probable cause, the police can search your car.
  5. You may be asked to perform a sobriety test, such as walking and turning or moving your eyes from side to side.
  6. If you fail these tests, the officer can administer a blood alcohol content (BAC) test. If you fail this test, you’ll likely be charged with drunk driving.
Traffic charges—especially drunk driving—can cause your car insurance rates to skyrocket. The
