What happens to my car loan if my cosigner dies?

My grandfather is the cosigner on my car, but he’s been in poor health lately. I’m planning for the worst just in case something happens. What happens with my car loan if the cosigner passes away?

Sorry to hear that your grandfather is ill.
In regard to your cosigner passing away, you would have the sole responsibility of making your
car loan
payments.
In most cases, you don’t usually need to notify your lender of a cosigner’s death. As long as you’re able to continue making your monthly payments, you shouldn’t have an issue.
If you needed your cosigner to get a certain rate or approval and decide to remove them from the loan, the lender may change the terms of the loan to reflect your own credit, if allowed in the loan contract.
If your cosigner was the primary person making payments: You may need to update the address or payment information with your lender—and make arrangements so you’re prepared to take on the payments yourself.
