What happens if the car dealer made a mistake on the contract?

After recently buying a car from a dealership, they contacted me the next day to say they made a mistake on the contract. The revised contract shows a $3,000 price increase. What should I do if my car dealer made a mistake on the contract?

When a car dealer makes a mistake on the contract, it is their responsibility to rectify it.
Take the following steps to address the issue:
  • Request written documentation of the change or addendum to the contract.
  • Ask the dealer to provide a new contract that identifies the mistakes and explains the reason for the changes.
  • Request clarification on the section of the contract that allows modifications to the original agreement.
The dealer will likely drop the issue to avoid complications. However, if push comes to shove, you may consider consulting a lawyer for assistance.
