What happens if someone uses my car insurance information?

My brother was in a crash and gave my insurance information instead of his. They called me and want to know what happened. What should I do?

“I’m sorry this happened to you. Using someone else’s
car insurance
information constitutes insurance fraud and is considered a felony in some states.
Before speaking with your insurance company, talk to your brother. If it was an honest mistake, it’ll be easy for him to correct it. You can also let your insurance company know that there was a mix-up.
If he did it knowingly,it’s important to inform him of the consequences. Should he refuse to give his insurance information, you’ll have to inform your car insurance company that you weren’t responsible for the accident. They’ll likely require statements and witness accounts to confirm your whereabouts.
Additionally, if there’s a police report from the scene, it should state that your brother was involved in the crash.
How your insurance company or the other driver’s insurance company handles your brother’s initial lie is their prerogative. You can only be upfront and honest when speaking with your insurance.
If your brother lied because he doesn’t have proper insurance coverage, recommend to him the

app. Jerry collects customized quotes from 50 top insurance providers and delivers the best deals to your phone in minutes for free.
Best of luck with your insurance and your brother!”
