What happens if someone commits insurance fraud?

If you report your car stolen, but it was actually being hidden in a barn under a tarp and covered with hay bales, would the police and the insurance company come after you?

“It is the responsibility and the duty of the insurance company to investigate every claim presented. Theft claims, which fall under comprehensive coverage, generally get more scrutiny due to their criminal nature.
If there is a reason to suspect fraud, the insurance company may report it to the National Insurance Crime Bureau. If the case is prosecuted, it can result in rather serious consequences.”
