You can have too much of a good thing, including adding refrigerant to your car’s A/C system! Overfilling your car’s A/C system can cause damage to your vehicle, including the following:
- Strain on the compressor and accessory belt
- Less efficient cooling in your car
- An overworked engine (and worse fuel economy)
- Engine overheating
- A/C failure
Any of these problems could mean costly maintenance bills—if you refilled your A/Cs refrigerant at home and think you may have added too much, it’s best to take it to a professional for a second opinion. Sometimes, a technician will need to purge your A/C unit to correct the issue.
