What engine is in a GMC Canyon?

Is the GMC Canyon a powerful truck, or will I need one with a better engine to haul a bunch of lumber and stone for the building project I’m working on right now? My friend owns a Canyon, but I’m not sure if it’s up to the task.

The
GMC Canyon
base model has a 3.6-liter V6 engine. However, depending on the trim option you choose, there are also other engines available. Your friend may have opted for a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine or a 2.8-liter Duramax TurboDiesel engine rather than the standard 3.6-liter V6.
The towing capacity will vary depending on which engine you choose. Check out how each stacks up:
  • The 2.5L engine can tow up to 3,500 pounds
  • The 3.6L engine can tow up to 7,000 pounds
  • The diesel engine can tow up to 7,700 pounds
While the GMC Canyon with the 2.5L engine probably won’t be very useful for hauling lots of stone and lumber, the other two engine options will work well for your purposes. You’ll need to ask your friend which Canyon model they own to learn whether or not their truck will be useful to you.
