Dashboard lights can definitely be confusing, so this is a good question—if the oil and wrench light on your vehicle comes on, it generally means that you need to have your oil changed. Once you have your vehicle serviced and filled with new oil, the light should go off.
If the light doesn’t shut off after you’ve gotten an oil change, it may be that your car’s computer hasn’t reset yet, in which case you’ll need to turn the switch on—don’t crank the engine—and push down on the fuel pedal three times. The light should blink a couple of times, letting you know that the computer has reset, and shut off.
Should this not work, or if a mechanic has verified that your oil doesn’t need to be changed, you may be experiencing an issue with your vehicle’s electrical system or possibly even the oil level sensor.
Taking care of your vehicle’s regular maintenance is an important part of owning a car—but so is making sure it’s protected by the right insurance policy. Licensed
