“Any cargo or semi-truck that carries and transports hazardous materials is required to have hazmat insurance in addition to commercial trucking insurance. The following materials are just a few deemed as hazardous and will need this additional protection for shipping:
  • Poisons
  • Explosives
  • Radioactive materials
  • Gases
  • Fertilizers
  • Paint
Depending on the quantity and nature of the hazardous cargo, truckers must have
liability coverage
anywhere from $1 million to $5 million. However, even with these limits, many companies have an umbrella policy in place for extra protection.
Hazmat insurance provides coverage for:
  • Site cleanup
  • Pollution cleanup
  • Loading and unloading accidents
  • Medical payments
  • Personal injury claims
Safe driving!”
