What does a bad rotor look like?

I had my uncle come and take a quick peek at my car (it’s been acting up lately), and he told me that my rotors were in rough shape. The only issue is that he walked off before I could ask him what he meant. So what does a bad rotor look like?

We’re glad to hear you asked someone about it, a bad rotor can create some seriously unsafe driving conditions. If you don’t know what a bad rotor looks like, here’s a list of what to keep an eye out for:
  • Grooves and score marks: A worn-out motor will contact your
    brake pads
, which in turn leave groove and score marks on your rotors
  • Blue rotors: A car part changing color is never a great sign. If your brake pad turns a blueish color, that means they’ve been exposed to excessive heat from your brake pads and need replacing
Just as important as knowing what to look for, you’ll also need to know where to look. Your rotors are bolted directly onto your wheel hub, and you’ll have an easier time spotting them if you park with your wheels turned to the left or to the right.
If you see the signs, it’s probably time to
call a mechanic
. While you’re waiting for your repairs, you may want to take a moment (and we really just mean one!) to check on your
