What do I need to sell my car in Ohio?

I want to sell my car before I leave for college, but I’m not sure which paperwork I’ll need. What kinds of things should I gather before trying to sell my car in Ohio?

In
Ohio
, you’ll need the following documents in order to sell your car:
  1. A valid and current proof of identification
  2. Current maintenance records
  3. A current emission report
  4. The vehicle’s title
(this will have to be signed in front of a notary by you and the buyer)
  5. A lien release form if you still have
    a lien
    on your car title
  6. An odometer disclosure statement, form BMV 3724. This can be obtained at your local BMV office
Once you have all of these documents, you can visit the BMV with your buyer to complete the title transfer and sale. After this point, the car will no longer belong to you!
You’ll also need to update your
car insurance
to reflect this change. The
