What do I do with my car registration if I'm living in two states?

I live in Georgia for eight months out of the year, but I move to Florida during the winter to avoid the weather. I just bought a new car and it’s the first time I’ve had to register a car when living in two states. What should I do?

You’ve become a snowbird and there’s nothing wrong with that! As far as your
car registration
, you need to register the vehicle in the state where you reside. In most cases, this is simply wherever your driver’s license is from.
If you have a
Georgia
driver’s license, that’s where you would register the car. If you have a Florida license, you would register the car in Florida.
Aside from your current situation, eight states currently allow you to register a car in a different state than where you have your driver’s license:
  • Delaware
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Maine
  • Massachusetts
  • New York
  • North Dakota
  • Pennsylvania
Since you just bought a new car, you’re probably in the market for car insurance. But don’t just purchase the first policy that comes your way. Instead, use the
