I got into my Honda Civic, but my steering wheel is locked up and won’t move. How do I unlock my steering wheel?

A lot of cars—including
Hondas
—have locking steering wheels as an added safety feature. If you park on a hill and your brakes fail, the locked wheel should keep your car from rolling downhill. But sometimes, if you yank on the wheel while getting into or exiting your vehicle, you can engage the lock by accident.
Fortunately, unlocking the steering wheel is really simple. Just follow these steps:
  • Pull the wheel in one direction and hold it
  • Put your key in the ignition and start the car
  • If your wheel is still locked, repeat the process, but pull the wheel in the opposite direction
Knowing how to lock your car’s steering wheel can keep it from rolling downhill and straight into something that will ruin your back bumper. But if an accident does happen, make sure you have the right
