What do I do if I'm being ghosted by someone who hit me?

Someone hit me and left a note. I got in touch with them, but now they've stopped returning my calls after finding out the cost. I never got their insurance information and the damage is below my collision deductible. What should I do?

“Sorry to hear about the other party ghosting you. It’s one of those social faux pas that have unfortunately become all too common.
Unfortunately, without someone’s
car insurance
information, you’ll likely have to pay out of pocket for the damage.
However, there are a few things you can do:
  • You could try to file a police report and provide them with the information the driver gave you. They may be able to track them down.
  • You could also try to do your own research though your resources and the information you have access to may be limited. Providing the other driver’s information to your car insurance company may also help you track them down.
  • You could pursue legal action. Find a lawyer that specializes in auto accidents to see if you have a case or see if it’s worth pursuing damages in small claims court. Through a lawsuit, you may be able to get the cost of damage reimbursed. With that being said, it’s also likely that your legal fees will exceed the cost of your damage.
If none of these are viable options and the damage is under your
collision insurance
deductible, you’re responsible for the damage. While this can be incredibly frustrating, it may be worth investing in a dashcam or lowering your full coverage deductibles to prevent this from happening in the future.
As the final step, you may want to consider a lower deductible on your car insurance. While your premiums will be higher, you won’t have to pay as much out of pocket. To make this process easier, sign up with
