What determines prices for car insurance?

I'm 19 and buying insurance for the first time, so I don't really know what I'm doing yet. I'd appreciate any advice you have for me.

There are many, many factors that influence car insurance prices. The most common ones include:
  • Age
  • Location
  • Marital status
  • Years of driving experience
  • Credit history (in some states)
  • Caims history
  • The car you drive
  • How much you use your car
  • The type and amount of coverage you buy
