“If you’re driving your vehicle in Mexico, you will need a Mexican
car insurance
policy. Since Mexico does not accept American liability car insurance, your current car insurance policy likely will not cover you. However, some insurers offer coverage if you’re within a certain distance from the U.S.-Mexico border. Call your insurance provider to make sure and to see what your policy covers.Some car insurance companies partner with Mexican car insurance companies, so contacting your agent is probably the fastest way to get coverage. Most major carriers allow you to easily add liability coverage in Mexico with a reputable company.
