Oh no—so sorry to hear about your son’s accident. A Honda Civic rear end collision repair could cost between $500 and $10,000 depending on the severity of the damage.
The good news is that rear-end collisions are usually less serious than front-end collisions. That’s because most of a car’s important machinery is located under the hood. However, a rear end collision could still damage the taillights, the bumper, and the frame of the car. Hopefully the other party’s insurance will cover the cost of repairs!
When you bring the Civic in for a repair, here’s what will happen:
  • A mechanic will assess the extent of the damage and provide a
    quote for body repair
  • An insurance adjuster may conduct their own assessment
  • You will agree on which repairs need to be made
  • The car will be fixed, usually within one week
  • Insurance will cover the costs if the other party had insurance
The major determining factor is whether the frame of the Civic is bent. Structural damage is very costly and time-intensive to repair. Frame damage can take a full week or months to repair depending on the damage.
Select your repair shop carefully. A very good repair shop can fix up your vehicle perfectly, excepting frame damage. Note that you may work with a repair shop that is approved by the insurance company.
If you think you might want to sell or trade-in this vehicle in the future, be aware that “collision” will appear on its record. This may be a turn-off for potential buyers.
Be certain you file a
diminished value claim
! Your vehicle will never be worth as much as an undamaged one, and you are entitled to compensation for that value difference.
