What can I do for a flat tire if I am alone at night with no spare?

"If I got a flat tire on a dark road at night with no spare tire and there might be bears around, what are my options? Asking for a friend."

“If you have a roadside service plan membership, you can contact them for assistance.
Many people also have towing coverage and roadside assistance through companies without realizing it. Check with your:
  • car insurance
  • automotive warranty
  • credit card company
If you do not have roadside assistance, or worse yet, do not have a cellphone to contact someone for assistance, you should activate your hazard lights and attempt to safely move your vehicle out of the lane of travel if you are able to do so.
Leave the hazard lights on and place a flag on the window. Most people won’t have a flag in their car, so you can use a shirt, a plastic bag, anything that can be noticed in the wind.
Depending on the area and the circumstances, you may be able to walk for help or may need to wait for help.
You should always keep emergency supplies in your vehicle, especially if you frequently travel in remote areas. And if you live near bears, invest in a bear bell.”
