What can give me peace of mind on a 1,000-mile road trip?

What should I do to prepare for a 1,000 mile road trip to St. Louis? I'm relocating from New York City to St. Louis for a job. I'm getting my car checked by a mechanic before I leave, but I don't have total faith in the vehicle. I'm nervous about driving my car and need some peace of mind.

“You could always get a AAA membership, as it’s nationwide and will at least tow your car to the nearest repair shop.
If you don’t want to get a AAA membership just for a single trip, then you might want to contact your car insurance company.
Most car insurance companies offer low-cost roadside assistance for a few bucks a month. If you’re a bit leery about the performance of your vehicle, then it’s a great investment.
