What are the types of oil used in cars?

I've always been asked at the repair shop what type of oil I want during an oil change, but I usually let the mechanic choose. Now I'm curious. What's the difference between oils used in cars?

“Motor oil for cars comes in four main types:
  • Conventional
  • High-mileage
  • Synthetic Blend
  • Synthetic
Each of these oils come with their pros and cons, especially in terms of quality and price. Conventional and high-mileage oils are the cheapest, but provide only decent protection and lubrication. Synthetic and synthetic blends have added compounds that can help remove engine buildup, reduce grime, and offer better overall performance.
Which one you pick for your vehicle will depend on the type of vehicle and its age, but even
cheap trucks
should get a decent motor oil to protect them from early maintenance issues. And even if you have an older car, don’t skimp on the oil if it’s just a few extra bucks.
Most car maintenance you do for your vehicle will not be covered by your car insurance policy. That said, it’s always a good idea to review your policy to ensure you’re not overpaying. If you want the peace of mind of knowing that you’re paying the lowest rates for the best coverage, try using the
Jerry
app. Jerry automatically reviews your policy every six months and shops for the best deals. And if you need to switch policies to save money, Jerry does all the paperwork for you, so you can save money and time. And the best part–Jerry does all of this for free.”
