Given how many flights have been canceled recently, I’m thinking it might be smarter to drive a few states to visit my family instead. What are the rest stops on I-40?

That could be a really fun road trip! This highway stretches across the entire country but there are less than 40 rest stops on I-40 in each direction.
I-40 covers a whopping 2,555 miles, all the way from
North Carolina
to California
. In fact, this highway passes through Arizona
, New Mexico
, Texas
, Arkansas
, Oklahoma
, and Tennessee
, too.These rest stops are fairly spread out, especially in states like Arkansas. You might need to pull over at a fast-food restaurant if it’s an emergency!
Here are the number of rest stops on I-40:
- Tennessee: six eastbound, seven westbound
- North Carolina: six eastbound, five westbound
- Arkansas: four eastbound, four westbound
- Oklahoma: four eastbound, four westbound
- Texas: two eastbound, two westbound
- New Mexico: five eastbound, five westbound
- Arizona: four eastbound, four westbound
- California: two eastbound, two westbound
