What are the pros and cons of headers?

I’m trying to decide if I should get a header for my car. I’m big on listing the pros and cons and comparing the two sides. What are the pros and cons of headers?

There are pros and cons to headers— it is good you are looking into both sides. A header is an add-on to the exhaust system. They allow each cylinder to have its exhaust pipe to expel exhaust fumes instead of all the cylinders sharing one pipe.
This allows the exhaust to leave each cylinder evenly, alleviating back pressure.
Here are the pros:
  • Alleviates back pressure in your exhaust system
  • Horsepower increase
  • Improved engine sound
Here are the cons:
  • If the header alters the air-to-fuel ratio, it can damage your engine
  • Some headers make the engine louder
  • Extra parts can lead to additional maintenance
We hope this has helped you make your decision!
