What are the most common problems with the Chrysler PT Cruiser?

I like the style, price, and car insurance costs of the PT Cruiser, but I’m not sold on its reliability. Chrysler has mixed reviews, and since I'm buying used, I don't know if I'll get much use out of it. What are the most common problems with the Chrysler PT Cruiser?

Although this retro-style hatchback has a lot to like, it's a poor investment. The Chrysler PT Cruiser's most common problems touch on major components like the ignition, engine, and build quality.
Among other things, owners reported:
  • Problems starting the car
  • Problems engaging the engine
  • Hearing rattling noises in the cab
  • Engine misfires due to faulty spark plugs
And that’s when it was new! Considering its dodgy reputation and the fact that the “newest” model is at least 13 years old, the Chrysler PT Cruiser’s most common problems are too big to ignore.
