What are the best places to live in State College?

I just got a job at Penn State, so I’m moving to State College in the near future. I’m 35 and I don’t really want to live next to a bunch of college students, but I want to buy a house. What are some of the best places to live in State College?

Despite having one of the biggest universities in the country, State College is a surprisingly quaint town, especially when summer rolls around and the students go home. But if you’re past your partying days, State College has plenty of other neighborhoods home to professionals and graduate students. Here are some of the best places to live in State College:
  • Toftrees: Situated on the edge of Toftrees Golf Resort, this exclusive neighborhood is pricey enough to keep the college students at bay.
  • Bellefonte: Located about 10 minutes northeast of campus, Bellefonte is a quiet neighborhood that’s almost purely residential. If you want a bit of peace while remaining close to Penn State, this is the spot for you.
  • Downtown: Even if you don’t want to deal with college students regularly, living downtown is still an option. Sure, the weekends get a bit crazy, but you’re close to shopping, dining, bars, nightlife, and more. If you’re willing to put up with a bit of partying on weekends, downtown should work just fine.
