What are the best places to live in Denver?

I’m moving my family to Denver for work next year and we’re in the process of finding a house. What’s the best area to look at?

If you’re packing up and moving to the ‘mile-high city’, there’s no shortage of great places to relocate. Some of the best places to live in Denver include Sloans Lake, Lincoln Park, Baker, Washington Park, Golden Triangle, Capitol Hill, Five Points, Cherry Creek, Highlands, University, and South Park Hill.
Let’s break it all down:
  • Sloans Lake: Great family neighborhood with an excellent sense of community, a perfect safety score, good schools, and lots of nature.
  • Lincoln Park: One of the most well-connected areas in Denver with a near-perfect public transit score. It’s a relatively quiet neighborhood great for those looking for an affordable area close to downtown.
  • Baker: A quirky, hip, and welcoming neighborhood with small-town vibes. It’s also super close to downtown and well connected with other areas of Denver, thanks to plenty of bike lanes and the Light Rail. Baker doesn’t receive great safety scores, so not the area for a family.
  • Washington Park: One of the oldest and safest places to live in Denver. You’ll find the 155-acre Washington Park (often compared to NYC’s Central Park), plenty of sports amenities, and lots of outdoor activities in the summer.
  • Golden Triangle: The cultural hub of Denver that has over 16 museums and art galleries, as well as all the perks of living in a big city—shopping, high-end and budget restaurants, 24-hr stores, avant-garde buildings, parks, and more.
  • Capitol Hill: One of Denver’s oldest and most heavily populated areas. It’s a vibrant city with great nightlife, but housing is on the pricier side.
  • Five Points: Made up of three mini-neighborhoods—Ballpark, River North (RiNo), and Curtis Park—Five Points is a richly diverse neighborhood with a lot of history. It’s not the safest place at night, but it’s one of the most walkable areas during the day.
  • Cherry Creek: With plenty of luxury shopping, art galleries, festivals, and some of the best schools in the state, Cherry Creek is a great option for parents with young kids.
  • Highlands: A unique neighborhood that cares about the community, the environment, and society. They have an epic food and nightlife scene and good affordability.
  • University: Lots of affordable housing thanks to the high density of university students and great nightlife and entertainment.
  • South Park Hill: A diverse neighborhood with high safety ratings and a central location.
