What are the best outdoor activities in Salt Lake City?
I recently moved to Utah for a new job and don’t have any friends here yet. I love spending time outdoors so I want to go out on some solo adventures and try to meet new people. What are some fun things to do outside in Salt Lake City?

) is the perfect hub for the adventurous outdoorsman all year round!Let’s start with the obvious—water sports! Just northwest of downtown SLC, you’ll find America’s saltiest lake, where you can spend warm days boating, jet skiing, waterskiing, rafting, kayaking, fishing, and more. Don’t have your own equipment? You’ll find plenty of rental companies in the area.
If you prefer to stay on dry land, you’ll love some of Utah’s famous hiking and biking trails like Bell Canyon Granite Trail, Bonneville Shoreline, and the Corner Canyon Trail System. If you’re up for a day trip, there are over 20 national parks and monuments within a few hours’ drive of the city. We suggest soaking in the sites via horseback or hot air balloon.
When the temperatures drop, skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing are common favorites. Go for a day trip or stay overnight at a gorgeous resort.
Of course, for crowds of people (and the potential to make new friends), you’ll likely want to head downtown. There, you’ll find plenty of outdoor events, festivals, and destinations—like:

- The Utah Blues and Arts Festivals
- Bike Prom
- Hogle Zoo
- Red Butte Garden
- Gilgal Sculpture Garden
And when you’re ready for happy hour, Utah’s capital has over 30 local craft breweries, many of which have outdoor beer gardens.
