The best and most recognized Mazda sports car is the Mazda MX-5, aka the Mazda Miata. This convertible roadster burst onto the scene in 1989. It has won Wheels Magazine’s Car of the Year honor three times and appeared on Car and Drivers 10 Best list 17 times.
But that’s not the only sports car Mazda has produced—nor is it the first. Mazda’s sports car history stretches back to 1967 with the Cosmo Sport 110S.
Here’s a list of the best Mazda sports cars.
  • RX-7: 1978–2002
  • Cosmo Sport 110S: 1967–1981
  • RX-2: 1972–2002
  • MX-5: 1989–present
  • MX-3: 1991–1998
  • RX-8: 2003–2012
  • 323 GT-R: 1992–1994
Of all of these cars, the Miata is the only one that Mazda still produces. And if you’re zipping around in one of these two-seater beauties, you’ll want to get good car insurance. Unfortunately, sports cars often have higher insurance premiums.
