What are some unusual places to visit in Kentucky?

My partner and I are going road-tripping around Kentucky this summer. We’ve been there a few times, so we’re looking to see things off the beaten trail this time around. What are some cool, unusual places to visit in Kentucky?

It’s always fulfilling when you can visit a state more than once and get a better feel for it!
Here are just a few unusual places to visit in
Kentucky
:
  • The Witches’ Tree in
    Louisville
—Situated on the corner of Sixth Street and Park Ave, this knotty tree is adorned in trinkets and necklaces offered to witches of local lore
  • Dixie Cup Water Tower in
    Lexington
—A nod to the legendary Dixie Cups of old, this water tower is an easy-to-glimpse landmark
  • Mother Goose House in
    Hazard
—Exactly as it sounds, this 1940s home is fashioned into an enormous goose (people do live here, though, so remember to be respectful!)
  • Apple Valley Hillbilly Garden and Toyland in
    Calvert City
—This free-to-visit former orchard is now home to whimsical art and dioramas made out of thousands of old toys and junk
  • National Corvette Museum Sinkhole in
    Bowling Green
—In 2014, a 40-foot sinkhole swallowed eight classic
    Corvettes
on display at this museum. Today, you can view the now-recovered sports cars and explore a meta-exhibit about the museum’s very own sinkhole incident.
  • Jailer’s Inn Bed and Breakfast in
    Bardstown
—If you aren’t afraid of the rumored ghosts, you can spend the night inside Kentucky’s oldest operational jail (running from 1797 to 1987!)
As you narrow down the unusual destinations you’d like to explore on your Kentucky road trip, you’ll want to also make sure your vehicle is well-protected for the drive.
