I’m driving through Indiana with my cousins soon, and we wanted to make a little road trip within the state since we haven’t explored it much before. We plan on mapping a route around the cool things we want to see. What are some unusual places to visit in Indiana?

- Gravity Hill inMooresville—Due to a bizarre optical illusion, drivers who put their car in neutral at the bottom of Keller Hill Road appear to roll upward (just be sure to test the illusion out safely!)
- World’s Largest Ball of Paint in Alexandria—It’s not a road trip unless there’s the world’s largest something!
- Levi Coffin House in Fountain City—Formerly owned by the Coffin family, this house was a significant shelter and safe house for the Underground Railroad (and serves as a museum today)
- The Shoe Tree in Albany—As part of a quirky local tradition, this tree has become the communal place to hang hundreds of pairs of old shoes
- The Sock Barn inNashville—If the shoe tree wasn’t unusual enough, this barn along the Tecumseh Trail is decorated in dirty socks, prompted by a joking sign taken literally: “Take a rock, leave a sock”
- Birdhouse Paradise of Bill Larkin in Loogootee—Determined to be surrounded by color, retired military coder Bill Larkin transformed his farmland into a free-to-visit oasis of vibrant birdhouses (you may even receive a mini one to thank you for stopping by!)
