My family is taking a trip down to Houston to visit some family, and we’re thinking of making a stop in Austin because we’ve never been. Are there any cool things to do with kids there?

- Barton Springs Pool: Fed by underground springs, this 1,000-foot-long natural limestone pool is the perfect spot to cool down with a picnic on a hot summer day.
- Bullock Texas State History Museum: As the state’s official history museum, it has three entire floors of different exhibits, galleries, and theaters—including an IMAX theater.
- Bat-watching Boat Tour: The Congress Avenue bridge is famously the home of the largest urban bat colony in the world. They emerge nightly for a spectacle best viewed from the river underneath.
- Austin Aquarium: Get in touch with your wild side at the Austin Aquarium, where you can hand-feed sharks, stingrays, birds, and other tropical animals—or even touch crocodiles and hold snakes if you’re feeling brave.
- Butler Metro Park: Situated right in downtown, Butler Metro Park has tons of exciting play areas for kids of all ages—plus biking trails and a splash pad!
You can technically experience the city on foot or by using their public transportation system, but it’ll definitely be easier to get
around Austin
if you have a car. Whether you’ll be in a rental car
