What are some methods of fixing dings on cars yourself?

My passenger side door got a ding in the parking lot from another vehicle. It’s noticeable, but not big enough that I want to pay for a body shop to fix it. What are some methods of fixing dings on cars yourself?

Sorry to hear that happened! For fixing small dings on cars, you could consider picking up a dent-removal kit from an auto parts store. A dent-removal kit typically includes support pieces that you’ll place on either side of the ding and a suction tool to pull the ding back out.
Here are a few more DIY remedies you can try:
  • Plunger method: Just wet the plunger and try to suction the ding away. You should hear a pop when you are successful
  • Hammer method: Just like it sounds, gently hammer on the underside of the ding until it pops out
  • Blow dryer method: For this, you will need a blow dryer and a can of condensed air. Put the blowdryer on the hottest setting and heat the ding. Once the car feels hot, aim the compressed air at the ding and press on the nozzle
It’s important to note that sometimes (most of the time), attempting to fix a ding yourself could worsen the damage, so consider that as you plan what to do with your door ding.
As you continue looking after your vehicle, it could also be worth taking another look at your
car insurance
policy to ensure it’s giving you the protection you need.
Comprehensive coverage
would cover the cost of your repairs, is considered a no-fault coverage, and typically has a very low deductible.
If you are unhappy with your current insurance policy, it’s time to change.
