The Volvo XC90: How many cylinders does it have?

The new Volvo XC90 is a bit out of my budget. As such, I’m thinking about buying a used or certified pre-owned option, but I want to make sure it has enough power for my tastes. How many cylinders does a Volvo XC90 have?

The Volvo XC90 can have four, five, six, or eight cylinders under the hood depending on the trim and model year.
Made from 2003 to 2015, the first generation of the
Volvo XC90
offered three engine options:
  • 2.4-liter inline turbo-five: Up to 208 hp and 236 pound-feet of torque
  • 3.2 V6
    : 240 hp and 236 pound-feet of torque
  • 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6: 268 hp and 280 pound-feet of torque
  • 4.4-liter V8: 311 hp and 325 pound-feet of torque
Produced from 2016 to the present day, the second generation of the Volvo XC90 only offers four cylinders, although all engine options are turbocharged and some are supercharged. With one of these engines at your disposal, you’ll get between 187 and 402 horsepower to go along with 295 to 472 pound-feet of torque.
No matter what model year of Volvo XC90 you buy, protect its engine by investing in a solid
car insurance
policy and keeping up with a routine
car maintenance schedule
