Should the A/C fan be on “AUTO” or “ON”?

My boyfriend and I got into an argument about the AC in our house the other day. I feel confident that the fan should be set to “AUTO” so it won’t be unnecessarily running, but my boyfriend feels like the fan should be on “ON” all the time. Which one is right?

Sorry to hear you and your boyfriend got into a bit of an argument! The good news? You’re right.
The A/C fan should be set to AUTO over ON for a few different reasons:
  • More efficient dehumidification
  • Less energy consumption
  • Less background noise
  • Less wear on your HVAC system
The AUTO setting on the A/C will only kick on when it needs to rather than the ON setting that just constantly runs the A/C fan. You won’t be as plagued with constant background noise and you’ll save money on your energy bill!
