Should my car be on when checking the engine oil

I think it’s time for an oil change, but want to check myself before driving all the way to Jiffy Lube. Should my car be on when checking the engine oil?

No! The car should definitely not be on when checking your engine oil.
Engines heat up fast, and checking your oil while your engine is on can cause you to burn yourself. Plus, the oil isn’t settled in the oil pan when the engine is on, so you may get an inaccurate reading of oil levels.
Either check your oil before you turning your car on or wait five to ten minutes for your engine to cool down.
While oil changes aren’t covered, a good
