Should I rent a car in New Orleans?
My family and I are planning on taking a vacation to New Orleans this summer. We’ll have all three of the kids, and we’ll be flying in from Seattle. I know we could just rent a car from the airport, but I’m not entirely sure that it’ll be worth it to have the car once we’re in the city. Should I rent a car in New Orleans?

If you plan on staying in
New Orleans
for your trip, you should not rent a car, but if you hope to leave town and see some of the many sights of the Louisiana
countryside, renting a car may be a cheaper option than dealing with tourist transportation.That being said, here’s why renting a car in New Orleans won’t benefit you on your vacation:
- If you stay in the French Quarter or the Central Business district, you’ll be within walking distance of tourist attractions, and you can use the city’s streetcars.
- Parking is expensive and hard to come by. If you do manage to find a parking space, you’re going to end up spending up to $30 a day to park your car.
Opting for a taxi to get to access areas the streetcars can’t get to will end up saving you money over renting a car in New Orleans.
However, if you end up driving in New Orleans, you’re probably going to want to take a little look-see at your current car insurance policy, because not all plans will cover you for
