My family and I are finally taking the vacation in Montreal that we’ve been talking about for years. We’ll be there for two weeks, and we plan to take in quite a lot of the city sights—do I need to rent a car?

Montreal is a popular vacation destination for families the world over, and you and your family are sure to have a great time! You do not need to rent a car in Montreal if you’re planning on spending all your time in the city.
Public transit in Montreal is truly top-notch. Montreal’s subway—the Metro—is clean and safe, and you also have the option of taking city buses, taxis, or an Uber.
If public transit’s not your thing and you choose to rent a car for your Montreal vacation, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Many signs will be in French: Though most French signs offer English translations, some are only in French.
Watch out for cyclists: A lot of residents and visitors in Montreal get around via bicycles, so make sure you’re sharing the road.
Parking can be confusing: Many lots only offer parking on specific days or during specific times, and rates can vary, so be sure to read all the signs before you park.
